                                                   FIBROMYALGIA

Imagine having to live with fatigue, or constant and enduring muscle or joint pain all day long. This is what many of the patients I’ve helped over the years talk about when describing their fibromyalgia pain. They can point to areas of “tender points” throughout their back and neck, and especially in the upper back and shoulder regions. They also talk about how much worse they feel on cold, damp, rainy, or windy days.

Fortunately for these people there is help.

If you are reading this report right now, chances are what you have been doing to help relieve your fibromyalgia pain is not working.

It has been my experience that fibromyalgia patients are extremely unique and different, and require special treatment.

One of the things which makes our office unique and different from many other treatment facilities in the area is that we actually enjoy treating fibromyalgia patients. We understand that because of their particular needs, these patients require a specifically designed treatment plan, one carefully crafted to help them live a healthier, more productive life.

TREATMENT

Treatment for fibromyalgia can vary, depending upon the type of pain which exists, and from the type of health care provider being seen. Medical doctors typically treat with medication, usually in the form of pain pills, muscle relaxers, and many times I’ve seen fibromyalgia patients come to me after having been prescribed antidepressants. While these medications offer some with relief, many times they do not address the underlying cause of the problem. Patients who do not respond well to pain medications are many times told “You’ll just have to learn to live with it,” or “It’s just in your head.”

THE CHIROPRACTIC APPROACH

At Dunlap Chiropractic, P.C. we help people daily find relief of fibromyalgia pain. It is safe to say that over the years we have helped thousands of Four State residents relieve their fibromyalgia pain. This would include people who have suffered from chronic muscle and joint pain for many years.

At our office we employ a variety of techniques, each one planned to get you relief as quickly as possible, with the goal of addressing the underlying cause of the pain.

The tools and techniques we use in our office to address fibromyalgia are numerous. These could include one, and many times a combination of the following procedures: chiropractic adjustments by hand, chiropractic adjustments with a low force adjusting instrument for weak or tentative patients, physical therapy, acupuncture, auricular therapy, trigger point therapy, traction, or exercise.

ABOUT DR. DUNLAP

While a lot of chiropractic offices have come and gone over the years, I have been in full time practice, at this same location since 1987. During this time it has been my most sincere pleasure to work with and for, some of the nicest, friendliest patients in the Four
State area.

I am a graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. This is where
chiropractic was created in 1895. At Palmer I was blessed with the opportunity to learn a variety of techniques from some of the finest instructors in the world. It was there that
I learned about the history of our profession, and began to employ some of the true and tested, as well as some of the more contemporary methods of healing.

Since graduating from Palmer, I have gone on to further my education in a number of areas. Currently I am the only doctor in this part of the state recognized as a Distinguished Fellow in Chiropractic Biophysics. This is a very demanding course of
study, which teaches doctors how to provide a high level of care to their patients, which in turn allows doctors to teach patients methods which they can employ to strengthen and stabilize areas of weakness in their spine. Presently there are only a handful of doctors in Missouri who have completed this training, most of them are either in Kansas City or St. Louis.

I am one of only several doctors in the Joplin area to have gone back to school and received additional training in acupuncture. In our office, I do not perform the traditional forms of acupuncture which employ the insertion of needles into the body. Instead, we
utilize what is known as electro acupuncture. Both traditional acupuncture and electro acupuncture work extremely well. The advantage of electro acupuncture is that the treat-ments require much less time, and for those who hate needles, don’t worry, there are no
needles.

Additionally, I am one of the few doctors in Missouri who has undergone additional training and is recognized as a Certified Insurance Claims Consultant.

Over the years I have, and remain very active in our state and local chiropractic associations. In the past I have served as President of the Four State Chiropractic
Association, and as President of the Missouri State Chiropractic Association Political
Action Committee.
